ABOUT THE AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA

The second edition of the Amgen Tour of California (TOC) will bring the drama and excitement of a professional bicycle stage race to the California coast. The world's top professional teams will compete over an eight-day, 700-mile race on a route that includes the California redwoods, wine country and the Pacific Coast. The 2007 Amgen Tour of California drew over 1.6 million spectators over the course of the 8-day event throughout California -- the largest in California sports history.

This Inn is in the quaint Danish town of Solvang and is located on the outskirts of town and is close to many different restaurants and shopping. The only inn in Solvang with a row of vineyards in the front; the Hadsten House has a wine country comfort to it complete with deluxe accommodations and spa services. Several of the teams from the Amgen Tour of California will be staying at the same hotel.

DAY ONE: Wednesday, February 20th
Solvang Arrival / Afternoon of Cycling
Santa Barbara is our rendezvous point. We will pick you up at either the Hadsten House Inn at Noon or Santa Barbara Airport at 1:00 PM. From here we will transfer with bike and luggage to Hadsten House Inn in Solvang.

Upon your arrival in Solvang and check in at your hotel, we will begin introductions about the details of your cycling vacation. Since the “Amgen Tour of California” race is still days away from the Solvang area, you will be able to preview the Time Trial course before the Pros do. Option for additional mileage.

Amgen TOC Pro Race Update: Modesto to San Jose

Stage three of the Tour of California leaves the central valley town of Modesto, before it heads into the hills en route to San Jose. With overall contention up for grabs, expect some of the favorites to begin to show their form.

DAY TWO: Thursday, February 21st
Cycling, Gourmet Picnic Lunch & Finish Line in San Luis Obispo

As the peloton overlooks the deep Pacific Ocean, you’ll be cycling past pleasant horse ranches in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. 

Our ride will continue through the bucolic countryside before we arrive at the Rancho Sisquoc Winery for gourmet picnic lunch & Wine Tasting. Option for additional mileage. Afterwards, we’ll shuttle to the Stage 4 Finish Line Festival in San Luis Obispo.

Amgen TOC Pro Race Update: Seaside to San Luis Obispo (via Big Sur)

The race begins the town of Seaside before it turns to the coast to follow the rustic coastline of Big Sur with a dramatic sprint finish in San Luis Obispo. In 2007, we were treated to a brunch sprint, with World Champion Paolo Betini taking first! NOTE: Specific itinerary subject to race times & route details.

DAY THREE: Friday, February 22nd
Solvang Time Trial Viewing/Afternoon Cycling

• Locale: Santa Ynez Valley
• Accommodations: Hadsten House Inn
• Ride: Happy Canyon Loop w/Optional Climb.
• Level: Moderate, Rolling hills (25-35 miles)
• Highlights: Cycling, Start/Finish in downtown Solvang
• Group Dinner: Hitching Post in Buellton

Amgen TOC Pro Race Update: Solvang Individual Time Trial

In 2007, the Solvang Individual Time Trial was the pivotal stage that determined the overall victor of the race. Each rider leaves from a “chute” at 1-minute intervals with the lead riders starting last in order of their race classification. Levi Leipheimer, third place winner in the 2007 Tour de France, gained an astonishing 18 second lead over CSC Jens Voigt in Solvang to propel him to secure his overall lead in the Amgen Tour of California.

Early morning shuttle to Santa Barbara. Today you’ll enjoy the excitement of the Stage 6 Start Line festivities in Santa Barbara.

After we watch the last of the peloton depart Santa Barbara, you’ll enjoy an afternoon ride along the Santa Barbara waterfront and through the hills of the American Riviera, before we shuttle back to the Santa Ynez Valley.

Tonight we bid farewell to our newfound friends over a wine-tasting dinner in Los Olivos.

Amgen TOC Pro Race Update: Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita

After a tough time trial in Solvang, the peloton will set out from Santa Barbara on a difficult stage through the
hills of Ojai to the finish in Santa Clarita. Those riders who didn’t overexert themselves in the time trial, may try
for a breakaway to gain overall time..

We will awake Sunday morning to a wonderful brunch at the Hadsten House Inn in Solvang, before we bid farewell and depart from the Santa Ynez Valley.

We will depart from the Hadsten House Inn in Solvang at approximately 12 Noon and transport luggage to the Santa Barbara Airport.  Prior arrangements will be made with Dr. Js Bicycle Shop for those who wish to ship their bicycles.

Amgen TOC Pro Race Update: Pasadena Circuit Race

Today the race concludes with a circuit race in Pasadena along the famous streets of Old Pasadena. With little change to the overall standings, expect a sprint finish alongside the historical Rose Bowl.

Price includes hotel, tour fees and all meals (not including alcohol). Wine tasting dinner includes select local wines. Price does not include airfare or travel expenses. Trip Cancellation Insurance is recommended. A 30% deposit per person is required 30 days prior to the start of the trip (approximately Jan 21, 2008) to guarantee a spot on the trip. (Deposit is $475 per person or $603 per person for Santa Ynez Inn Upgrade Option). Balance of trip price is due 14 days prior to the start of the trip or February 6th, 2008.

In the event of a cancellation 30-22 days prior to start of the trip (approximately Jan 30th), deposit is fully refundable less a $200 administrative fee. With a trip cancellation within 21-8 days prior to the start of the trip, full trip price is refundable less deposit of 30% (either $475 for Hadsten House option or $603 for Santa Ynez Inn option). Trip price is not refundable within 7 days prior to the start of the trip (approximately February 12, 2008)

Release and Assumption of Risk: Our release & Assumption of Risk must be signed by all parties that are reserving with Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours. For children under 18, a parent or guardian must sign on his/her behalf.

A. Risks and Dangers in Travel and Related Matters. I recognize that the trips and tours offered by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours will or may involve travel and activities which are, or may be, inherently dangerous to participants; that travel by public or private conveyance of any sort, or travel on bicycle may result in illness, injury or death which may be caused by, or result from, my own negligence, actions or failure to act of others, including employees or agents of Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours., by physical exertion for which I am not prepared, consumption of alcohol, medications or drugs, natural events or other causes. I voluntarily accept all such risks. I further agree that I have read all the safety and other rules, regulations and instructions or other material given to me either orally or in writing by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and I will abide by them and all generally accepted rules of safety and behavior, during my trips with Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours. In connection with bicycle trips offered by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours, I agree to wear a bicycle helmet at all times.

B. Acceptance of Risks and Dangers. I voluntarily accept all such, and all related risks.

C. Waiver of Claims against Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and Others. In consideration of Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours permitting myself and/or my family members to participate in the tours and activities provided by it, and persons associated with it, I hereby release Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours, its owners, agents, servants, employees and independent contractors from any and all claims, demands and liabilities which I now have or in the future may have against it or them which may result from my (or my families) participation in the activities covered by, or related to, this agreement. This release and waiver shall be binding on my, my heirs, executors and administrators and all persons claiming under me.

D. Insurance. I am aware that medical services or facilities may not be readily available or accessible during some of the time in which I am participating in the trip. I am also aware that trip cancellation and medical insurance is being offered to me through a separate insurance agency and that Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours strongly recommends that I purchase this coverage or obtain such insurance from some independent agency of my own choice.

E. Right of Privacy. I hereby grant Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours the right to take, and use, for promotional and other commercial purposes, photographic and other records of its trips and participants.

F. Governing Law. This Agreement shall be governed by, and interpreted according to, the laws of the State of California and any disputes or claims made under it shall be determined by arbitration as provided by the laws of the State of California.

General. I also acknowledge that I have carefully read Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tour’s general information including its policy on canceled trips, refunds and insurance and agree to all stated conditions set forth on the Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours web site. I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract between myself and Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and/or its affiliated organizations and I sign it of my own free will and in its entirety.
