About the AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA
The ninth installment of the Amgen Tour of California (ATOC) will once again bring the drama and excitement of a professional bicycle stage race to California. As the largest professional bicycle race in US, this nine-day, 800 mile race will race along a route that includes the Big Sur Coast, Mountain Top finish at Diablo, the Beautiful Santa Barbara Wine Country, the state capitol, plus the Pacific Ocean and the San Gabriel Mountains. Each year the Amgen Tour of California attracts in excess of 1.2 million spectators over the course of this 9-day cycling event – the largest in California Sports History.. Day 1: Tuesday, May 13th
Shuttle from Santa Ynez to Morro Bay
12 PM: Meet at shop in Santa Ynez (3630 Sagunto St.)
(11AM: Optional shuttle pickup in Santa Barbara. Contact us for pick up location)
2:00 PM: Arrive in Morro Bay
Route: “Montana de Oro State Park Loop.”
Difficulty: Moderate, rolling hills
Distance: 22 miles
We will kick off our week of riding with a scenic loop through the central coast's most beautiful state parks. Ride gentle well-paved roads through Montana de Oro State Park and enjoy views of the magnificent golden sand dunes as well as the iconic Morro Bay rock.
Dinner: The Inn at Morro Bay, overlooking the Pacific.

Day 2: Wednesday, May 14th
Stage 4 finish in Cambria and the Pacific Coastline & Elephant Seals
Route: Pacific Coast Highway
Difficulty: Moderate; accessible to all riders
Distance: 40-50 miles with options for more.
After a wonderful hotel breakfast at the Inn, we shuttle up the coast to Ragged Point for a spectacular ride down the coast with the wind at our back. We will ride along the coast past San Simeon with views of the rugged Pacific coastline and a stop to see the elephant seals.
Our ride continues until we stop for lunch in Cambria where will see the sprint finish of Stage 4. After the finish and festivities we will have the option to ride down to the coastal town of Cayucos. Shuttle back to the Inn.

Day 3: Thursday, May 15th
Witness the start of Stage 5 in Pismo Beach and cycle Foxen Canyon
Route: Pismo and Foxen Canyon
Difficulty: Moderate with two climbs
Distance: 45-50 miles with options for more
Check out of the Morro Bay Inn and cycle to Pismo Beach to watch the start of Stage 5 (option to shuttle there). After the Stage 5 start we will shuttle to the beginning of Foxen Canyon for a ride through the wine country. We gently wind our way up this bucolic canyon and through the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley's wine country. Prepare for some of the most beautiful country in the area, secluded and pristine.
We pass premier wineries in the area including Zaca Mesa and Foxen. After the two short hills in the early part of the ride, we experience a gentle descent into the small town of Los Olivos where lunch will be served. Shake out your riding legs with a stroll through Los Olivos to see the boutiques, tasting rooms, restaurants, and galleries. The final short ride of the day lands us at the Santa Ynez Inn.
Dinner: Vineyard House Restaurant.

Day 4: Friday, May 16th
Route: Moderate with options to climb part of Figueroa Mountain
Distance: 40-50 miles
After a wonderful hotel breakfast at the Inn, meet at our location to preview today's route. You'll ride to the eastern hills and Happy Canyon Road and enjoy breathtaking vistas of majestic mountain tops and oak-studded rolling hills before arriving at a favorite local vineyard where you are served a delightful gourmet picnic lunch.
Our now-famous lunches are served on cloaked tables overlooking vineyards or nestled in more intimate settings. You will be served some of our favorite local foods served with flatware and glassware. Wine tasting follows your leisurely lunch before we make the short return trip to our shop.

Day 5: Saturday, May 17th
Epic Jalama Beach Ride
Route: Santa Rosa Road to Jalama Beach
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult, rolling hills and several 2 mile climbs.
Distance: Approx. 75-80 miles round-trip
or 40 miles one-way with shuttle back from beach)
We call this the "Queen of the Epic Rides" because it combines all the best scenery the area has to offer: challenging, beautiful rolling hills and vineyards combined with spectacular scenic overlooks of the Pacific Ocean. Jalama Beach State Park is a classic and remote California location with expansive views of the ocean.
This ride is not for the faint of heart, unless that heart enjoys over 4800' of climbing over 78 miles! A SAG vehicle is provided. Shuttle back from beach for those who prefer not bike back after a delicious, well-deserved Jalama burger...

Day 6: Sunday, May 18th
Breakfast & Goodbyes
Following another breathtaking sunrise, and a plentiful gourmet breakfast, our journey through Central California comes to a close.
