This spectacular guided tour, dubbed ‘Alpe d’huez of the Pacific’ begins with a quick warmup in the Santa Barbara foothills, before we begin climbing up Mountain Drive to test our climbing legs. The ‘official’ Gibraltar Road Climb is just 6.1 miles with 2,593’ of climbing from the top of Mountain Drive to East Camino Cielo. The climb is a steady 6-8% grade until the Flores Flats where the road pitches sharply up to 12% for the last 2 miles. Option to extend to La Cumbre Peak and descend down Painted Cave Road or return down Gibraltar. The official total climb from the bottom of Mountain Drive to the top of La Cumbre Peak is 7.9 miles with 3,054’ of vertical.
Lunch at Playa del Azul following the ride.
