This wonderful cycling tour offers some of the best late winter riding in Southern California. Starting out in the epic Joshua Tree National Park, you will ride through beautiful desert landscape; experience the colorful desert bloom of wildflowers, cacti, & yucca and enjoy breath-taking vistas in the Anza-Borrego Park as you pedal in the foreground of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Your vacation finishes with a few days in the desert oasis of Palm Springs, where you have your choice of cycling, hiking or relaxation by the pool. This spectacular journey through the California Desert includes fantastic cycling, luxurious accommodations, fine dining and beautiful desert landscapes.

Day 1 – Sunday
Los Angeles Arrival – Shuttle to Joshua Tree
Meet at Courtyard Marriott Near LAX.

Shuttle Service to Joshua Tree National Park.

Upon our arrival to the 29 Palms Inn at the Joshua Tree National Park, introductions will be made and there is an optional afternoon bike ride into the Park to view some of the geological wonders of the surrounding desert landscape.

Route: Western Corridor of Joshua National Park
Level of Difficulty: easy; 15-18 miles
A wonderful dinner will follow at the Inn.

Day 2 – Monday
“Cycling in Joshua Tree National Park”

joshua tree Natnl ParkWith your cycling legs back in shape, today we will pedal further into the Joshua Tree National Park to the South, where we will capture vistas of the unique Saltan Sea. Pedal past the colorful, crème-colored blooming of the Joshua Tree yucca tree, as well as an abundance of surreal desert landscapes.

Route: “Joshua Tree National Park Ride”
Level of Difficulty: 25 to 40 miles moderate with rolling hills; option for add’l.

Shuttle to Cottonwood Visitor Center to Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa.
Dinner on your own in Borrego Springs. Recommendations and shuttle available.

Day 3 – Tuesday
“Anza-Borrego National Park & Wildflowers”

Desert Wild FlowersEnjoy a scenic ride along the north side of the Anza-Borrego National Park past colorful desert wildflowers, Palm Groves, Cacti and sweeping vistas.  We will stop in the town of Borrego Springs for a gourmet picnic lunch near Christmas Circle. Optional ride after lunch includes a challenging ride up Yaqui Pass, followed by a fun descent to the canyon floor.

Route: “Anza-Borrego Springs/Yaqui Pass Loop”
Level of Difficulty: 25-45 miles; easy to moderate. Option for additional mileage.
Here we will enjoy a relaxing 2-night stay with private pools, tennis and spa services.

Day 4 – Wednesday
“Borrego Springs to the Saltan Sea”

saltan seaToday we will depart the Borrego Ranch & Spa for an epic ride past the colorful expanses of California Field Primroses, octillo, desert cacti and washed out sandstone canyons en route to the Saltan Sea. We will enjoy lunch just outside the town of Saltan City.

Route: “Borrego Springs to Saltan Sea”
Level of Difficulty: 35 miles; easy to moderate.

Shuttle from Saltan Sea to Viceroy Palm Springs Spa & Resort.

Dinner at local favorite in Palm Springs.

Day 5 – Thursday
“Palm Springs Cycling, Hiking and Relaxation”

Awake in California’s desert paradise for a ride, a hike or much needed relaxation.  Today we will pedal along Dillon Road in the foothills east of Palm Springs.  Or skip the ride and take advantage of the spa services, Yoga classes or catch up on your suntan aside one of three refreshing many pools at the resort. Be sure to join us for a short late afternoon hike into Indain Canyon to view ancient dwellings of the Agua Caliente Indians, just outside Palm Springs.

Route: “East Valley – Dillon Road Loop”
Level of Difficulty: easy to moderate; 25-40 miles.
Other: Afternoon hiking, Rest & Relaxation, Spa treatments.

Farewell Dinner at a local favorite in Palm Springs.

“Breakfast, Shuttle & Goodbyes”

Following an unforgettable sunrise and a plentiful breakfast, our journey through the California Desert comes to a close.

Release & Assumption of Risk Waiver

Release and Assumption of Risk: Our release & Assumption of Risk must be signed by all parties that are reserving with Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours. For children under 18, a parent or guardian must sign on his/her behalf.

A. Risks and Dangers in Travel and Related Matters. I recognize that the trips and tours offered by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours will or may involve travel and activities which are, or may be, inherently dangerous to participants; that travel by public or private conveyance of any sort, or travel on bicycle may result in illness, injury or death which may be caused by, or result from, my own negligence, actions or failure to act of others, including employees or agents of Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours., by physical exertion for which I am not prepared, consumption of alcohol, medications or drugs, natural events or other causes. I voluntarily accept all such risks. I further agree that I have read all the safety and other rules, regulations and instructions or other material given to me either orally or in writing by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and I will abide by them and all generally accepted rules of safety and behavior, during my trips with Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours. In connection with bicycle trips offered by Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours, I agree to wear a bicycle helmet at all times.

B. Acceptance of Risks and Dangers. I voluntarily accept all such, and all related risks.

C. Waiver of Claims against Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and Others. In consideration of Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours permitting myself and/or my family members to participate in the tours and activities provided by it, and persons associated with it, I hereby release Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours, its owners, agents, servants, employees and independent contractors from any and all claims, demands and liabilities which I now have or in the future may have against it or them which may result from my (or my families) participation in the activities covered by, or related to, this agreement. This release and waiver shall be binding on my, my heirs, executors and administrators and all persons claiming under me.

D. Insurance. I am aware that medical services or facilities may not be readily available or accessible during some of the time in which I am participating in the trip. I am also aware that trip cancellation and medical insurance is being offered to me through a separate insurance agency and that Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours strongly recommends that I purchase this coverage or obtain such insurance from some independent agency of my own choice.

E. Right of Privacy. I hereby grant Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours the right to take, and use, for promotional and other commercial purposes, photographic and other records of its trips and participants.

F. Governing Law. This Agreement shall be governed by, and interpreted according to, the laws of the State of California and any disputes or claims made under it shall be determined by arbitration as provided by the laws of the State of California.

General. I also acknowledge that I have carefully read Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tour’s general information including its policy on canceled trips, refunds and insurance and agree to all stated conditions set forth on the Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours web site. I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract between myself and Santa Barbara Wine Country Cycling Tours and/or its affiliated organizations and I sign it of my own free will and in its entirety.
