up to the “Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon” on Saturday, May 10th, 2008.
Arrive into town a few days early for some cycling to loosen up your legs and familiarize your
senses to the tastes of the wine country.
Your cycling vacation includes deluxe accommodations, gourmet picnic lunches, fine dining, including a wine makers dinner. This guided cycling vacation will also include local cycling tours each day, including a “ride the course” tour on Saturday.

The second annual Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon returns to the Santa Ynez Valley, by Destination Races. Located in a spectacular setting within the wine country; this event features a scenic course through rolling hills alongside the majestic San Rafael Mountains. The race starts in Santa Ynez and passes through the town of Los Olivos before finishing on Copenhagen Street in historic Solvang for the Wine & Music Festival.

DAY ONE: Thursday, May 8th
Santa Ynez Arrival / Afternoon of Cycling
 Upon your arrival in Santa Ynez and check in at your hotel, we will begin introductions about the details of your cycling vacation.
Locale: Santa Ynez
Accommodations: Hadsten House Inn & Spa
Ride: Los Olivos/Roblar Loop
Level: Easy to mod., rolling hills (20 to 25 mi.) Option for add’l mileage.
Highlights: Introductions & Spectacular Cycling
Group Dinner: Mattei’s Dinner in Los Olivos
Today’s introductory ride will depart from Santa Ynez and into the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. We will pass by apple farms and miniature horses en route to the quaint town of Los Olivos. We will continue out Figueroa Road to the base of the San Rafael Mountains, with your first glimpse of the wine country. We will pass by bucolic vineyards along some rolling hills as we return back to the hotel. Option for additional mileage.

DAY TWO: Friday, May 9th
Cycling thru Happy Canyon & “Preview of the Half Marathon Course” by Bicycle.
 Locale: Santa Ynez
Accommodations: Santa Ynez Inn
Ride: Half Marathon Course by bicycle & Happy Canyon Route
Level: Easy, Gently Rolling (15-20 miles)
Option for additional mileage.
Highlights: Preview the Half Marathon Course & Gourmet Picnic Lunch.
Group Dinner: Dinner on Your Own
(Destination Races dinner at Zaca Mesa Winery)
Today we ride the Half Marathon course by bicycle to preview what you will run on Sunday. After we arrive in Solvang, we will continue through the heart of the valley to Brander Winery for a gourmet picnic lunch, followed by wine tasting. After lunch we will ride a gentle spin out Happy Canyon to loosen up our legs before we return to the hotel.
DAY THREE: Saturday, May 10th
“Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon”
 Locale: Santa Ynez
Accommodations: Santa Ynez Inn
Ride: Half Marathon (by foot!)
Level: 13.1 miles

Festival at Finish Line in Solvang
Today you trade in your cycling shoes for your running shoes to conquer the goal we set many months before: the Half Marathon. After a light hotel breakfast, we will walk over to the start.
After you finish running the race, we’ll join you for the celebration in Solvang at the Wine & Music Festival.
Note: shuttle from Royal Scandinavian Inn in Solvang will take runners to start line in Santa Ynez.
Pack a change of clothes to leave with start line volunteers. Your clothes will be brought to finish line.
Group Dinner: Wine Makers’ Dinner at Vineyard House in Santa Ynez
DAY FOUR: Sunday, May 11th ~ Hotel Checkout & Goodbyes
