Carmel to Santa Barbara Cycling Vacation

This multi-day cycling tour includes many of our favorite rides along the rugged Big Sur coastline of California's central coast and ends in Santa Barbara wine country. Prepare for amazing riding, spectacular scenery, fine wines, and memories of a lifetime.

This luxury boutique inn located in downtown Santa Barbara is just a few blocks from fine dining, theaters, and shopping. It offers a contemporary and sophisticated Spanish-Mediterranean style with quality amenities and close attention to personal service.
The inn features king beds with frette linens, fireplaces, and deluxe bath amenities. Each room includes either a private balcony or garden.
A deluxe breakfast is included each morning.
Day 1, Sunday Shuttle from Santa Barbara to Morro Bay
12:00 PM: Shuttle pickup in Santa Barbara.
Transfer to SBWCCT for bike fitting.
Shuttle from Santa Ynez to Carmel.
Check in and dinner at Mission Ranch Hotel.

Day 2, Monday - Carmel to Big Sur
Route: Easy to moderate; rolling hills Miles: 20-30 with options for more (shuttle transfer from hotel to start of 17-mile ride, if necessary).
Depart on cycling tour along 17-mile drive in Carmel /Monterey. This beautiful ride follows the coast along the Monterey Peninsula past the Pebble Beach Golf Course, a rugged coastline, and Ghost Tree Point, a surreal Monterey pine on top of an offshore rock.
Our cycling tour will continue along PCH 1 along the Big Sur coast, some of the most scenic views the California coast has to offer. We will stop at Andrew Molera State Park for a picnic lunch; after lunch, it's a short ride to the town of Big Sur.

Day 3, Tuesday - Big Sur to Morro Bay
Route: Moderate with several climbs, Miles: 50 miles with shuttle support available. Stronger riders can continue on to San Simeon (additional 18 miles).
Today we depart from Big Sur Lodge to challenge to the two climbs along the Big Sur coast just outside Pfeiffer State Park. We will stop at Kirk Creek State park for lunch along the coastline.
Our cycling tour will finish at Ragged Point, just north of San Simeon. Stronger riders can continue down the coast an additional 18 miles to William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach in San Simeon. Shuttle transfer from Ragged Point /San Simeon to Inn at Morro Bay. We will make a brief stop to see the elephant seals at San Simeon on the way.

Day 4, Wednesday Morro Bay to Santa Ynez
Route: Moderate Miles: 30-35
After a wonderful hotel breakfast at the Inn, we'll meet up to preview today's route. Our ride begins with a shuttle from Morro Bay to Sisquoc. Our cycling tour rides away from the farming community of Santa Maria and heads west toward the wine country, past the small town of Sisquoc along Foxen Canyon.
Pedal rolling hills and breathtaking scenery as we gently wind our way through this bucolic canyon. The road is lined with vineyards, trees, and grazing land – and it's backed by spectacular views of the San Rafael Mountains.
We'll stop for a gourmet picnic lunch on Los Olivos and follow with a taste of local premier wines. Our tour today ends with our arrival to the Santa Ynez Inn for luxury hotel accommodations.

Day 5, Thursday - Santa Ynez Valley Tour Route: Easy to moderate Miles: 20-35 with options for climbing or more mileage
Wake up to an elegant breakfast at the Inn. Today you'll see the best of Santa Barbara County wine country. This spectacular ride takes you through picturesque back country roads alongside rural ranches, sun-draped vineyards, and oak-studded rolling hills with views of the prominent Figueroa Mountain.
Riders have the option to climb the first part of Figueroa, the same mountain Lance Armstrong and other pros come to train on each winter. A gourmet picnic lunch and wine tasting await you here in the valley. Upon our return from the bike ride, we shuttle the short distance to Santa Barbara and enjoy an evening on the coast.
We'll close with a farewell dinner at one of Santa Barbara's finest restaurants. Accommodations: Inn of the Spanish Garden
Day 6, Friday
Breakfast & Goodbyes
Following an unforgettable sunrise and a plentiful breakfast, our journey through central California comes to a close.
Bid farewell to your newfound friends until next time.
